On April 21, 2023 The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation broke ground on the Colin G. and Nancy N. Campbell Archaeology Center.
The center will be a one of a kind facility that ensures Colonial Williamsburg’s incomparable archaeology collection will be accessible to future generations of guests, scholars, and community members. This new building will contain state of the art laboratories, modern equipment, and curated collections which will be open to visitors seven days a week. The center provides guests an opportunity to observe and interact with archaeologists as they clean, study, and analyze artifacts and the historical evidence that helps us recreate life in the past. The Campbell Center will include a public archaeology lab and classroom space where guests will be invited to learn more about archaeology and participate in hands-on experiences. In addition to lab space, the center will be home to exhibitions showcasing the long and diverse history of Williamsburg.
