This year marks several important milestones in the story of the Williamsburg Magazine: the 310th year since its creation; the 250th anniversary of the Gunpowder Incident; 135 years since the building's purchase for historic preservationist goals; and 70 years since the start of military interpretation in the structure. This talk, exploring the period from 1889 to present, will examine the more recent preservation and interpretation history of the Magazine. We will examine both how our knowledge about the Magazine has transformed over time and how the story of the Magazine has changed our understanding and interpretation of Colonial Williamsburg more broadly.
