Join community members and the staff of the John D. Rockefeller Jr. Library at the Lane Auditorium at Bruton Heights School to see a short vodcast that introduces Albert Durant and the Albert Durant Photography Collection.
The collection documents the photographic production of Williamsburg's first Black city-licensed photographer. Durant's photographic output provides a priceless visual history of Black life in Williamsburg and surrounding Virginia communities from the late 1930s to the early 1960s.
The vodcast will run on a loop in the auditorium, and attendees will have an opportunity to review photographs and help identify the people, places, and dates shown in his photography. Thanks to a generous gift from the Frank K. Webb Charitable Trust, attendees will also be able to view a slideshow highlighting some new images from the Albert Durant Photography Collection that have recently been scanned from conserved negatives.
