Located behind the Ewing House, one of Colonial Williamsburg’s original buildings, the Ewing Storehouse is a vital part of the historic property once owned by Scottish merchant Ebenezer Ewing. Ewing purchased the land in 1792, and after his death in 1795, it passed to Elizabeth Ashton, the mother of his illegitimate son, Thomas. The storehouse is one of the outbuildings mentioned in Ewing’s will, which laid out provisions for his family’s future ownership of the property.

A Vital Part of Colonial Life

The Ewing Storehouse served an important role in the daily workings of the Ewing household, providing storage space for goods and supplies. Like the other structures on the property, the storehouse offers a glimpse into the practical aspects of colonial life, allowing visitors to see how goods were stored and managed in the 18th century.
